Portfolio Press

Portfolio Press is a responsive WordPress theme for showcasing your photography, art, web sites, or other projects. It also works nicely as a regular blog site. An options panel is available for uploading logos and changing the layout.

Here’s a video screencast of how it works:

Download It

The theme is in the WordPress Themes Directory. You canĀ download a copy and try it out.

Child Themes

Child themes are the recommend way to customize WordPress themes if you want to continue to get theme updates. Download the child theme for Portfolio Press. If you’re just making CSS changes, you can also use the custom CSS module in the Jetpack plugin.

Suggested Plugins

If you’re switching from a different theme and have uploaded images already, I recommend regenerating your thumbnail sizes.

If you want to display galleries in a unique way, I suggest the “Tiled Galleries” module in the Jetpack plugin. If you need a contact form, I suggest the “Contact Form” module also in the Jetpack plugin.

If you’d like page numbers at the bottom of an archive (rather than previous/next) this theme has support for the WP-PageNavi plugin.

If you would prefer to use custom post types rather than post formats for portfolio display, you can use the Portfolio Post Type plugin.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a new image or gallery post?

This theme displays image and gallery post formats in a grid. To create a new portfolio or gallery post, make sure the “Image” or “Gallery” is selected as the post format. You’ll also want to set the featured image. If all your posts are image and gallery posts, they will display in a grid. If not, you may want to set a page template to just display those posts (more on this below).

How can I make the grid of images show on the home page?

Create a new page, title it, and choose the page template “Image and Gallery Posts” or “Full-Width Image and Gallery Posts”.

Then under “Settings” > “Reading” click “Front page displays” a static page. Select the page you just created that has that page template set.

How do I set up the menu?

I got you covered. Watch this video.

How do I change the number of items per page?

Go to “Settings > Reading”. Update “Blog pages show at most” to the number of items you would like to show.

Can I stop the featured image from showing automatically in the image and gallery posts?

Yes, go to the options panel and choose “Display images manually.”

Can I change the order that portfolio posts display?

The easiest way is to change the post date- that’s how they are naturally ordered.
