I’ve been getting a lot of questions about how to use and set up the WordPress menu navigation, so I created this video tutorial to walk you through it. These menus are a new feature in WordPress 3.0, and you’ll know if your theme supports it by clicking on Appearance > Menus.
This video specifically shows how the menu navigation works in Portfolio Press (though it is applicable to any WordPress theme that supports menus). It shows how to add a “Home” link in the navigation and how to add post tags to the menus.
Hey, it really is a great thing having the different Portfolio sections! Thanks for the video! So there is only one thing I am still wondering about, which probably is really easy and I am just to dumb figuring it out: How can I change the black header to a picture that appears up there??

I sent you a comment about this topic earlier. I’ve now watched this tutorial. I’ve used Portfolio Tags but the the portfolio items are still not separating to the separate pages or portfolio sections.
I was thinking of deleting all the content and starting over to see if maybe they will somehow magically separate in to different categories.
I will try to watch this tutorial again, and again. LOL.
Please advise if you have any suggestions.

The items won’t separate on the actual portfolio page. But you can set up the different sections using tags, and use a page template to link to those different sections.

How did you get the tertiary and other sub-levels for the pages? Did you have to create those pages?
Use the WordPress menus and just drag the submenu items underneath the main items (they should indent a little if you’re doing it right).

I have been trying to add pictures to the portfolio via “add a new element” but the nothing actually shows. Comments, description and everything that is text show but the picture. Link broken or something…could you help me?
Hi again Devin – I just updated my theme version (don’t know if that is the reason for this problem) but there’s something wrong now – you’d have to see the home page – but when I go to “menus” I get the message “Catchable fatal error. Object of class WP_Error could not be converted to string in /home6/compuuc.3/public_html/kristineames/wp-includes/formatting.php on line 445.” Any ideas on what to do?
It doesn’t sound like a Portfolio Press issue. What happens if you switch to the Twenty Ten theme and try and set the menu. Do you get an error there?

Not at this point. You’d need edit the portfolio tags template.

I have the same question as Jeddy. Love the theme but don’t want the sidebar for the portfolio sections. Do you know the code for the portfolio tags template. Would that be the taxonomy-portfolio-tags.php page? That is the only one that I see in the editor that could be it.

You’d need to change the CSS or find a theme that already display the menu like that. But yes, it’s possible.
AMAZING! This theme is a godsend, and I couldn’t have asked for a more appropriate video tutorial than this one. I had so many questions (like should I be focusing on classifying all of my portfolio items into categories, or tags???), and this just completely set me straight! You’re a good guy, Devin!

I’m curious, is there a option to set the gallery on the homepage? Just on http://www.mirelmasic.nl and not http://www.mirelmasic.nl/page? Or do I have to manually edit files?
Are you talking about Portfolio Press? Go back and read its post which covers that in the FAQ.
Ahh nevermind. Been a while since I used wordpress. It’s just a standard option (use a certain page as homepage).
